  • 1589

    Sir Walter Raleigh returns from the Americas empty-handed. However, first mate Jeremiah Dennigan lets him introduce the potato to Queen Liz I thereby saving Raleigh’s head.

  • 1648

    Botanist Erasmus Dennigan introduces ‘the spud’ - a new strain of potato in Oldtown, North Co. Dublin.

  • 1872

    Parisian chef, Samuel De Nigane, accidentally drops a slice of potato into hot oil and creates ‘Le Chip’.

  • 1957

    Russian astrophysicist Samuel Denniganovitcz launches Spudnik as part of the USSR’s Cold War effort.

  • 1976

    Samuel L. Dennigan launches Sam Dennigan & Co. to shake up the fresh produce market

  • 1995

    Sam’s sons, Sam and Joe, follow in their dad’s footsteps and develop a state of the art packhouse in Oldtown.

  • 1999

    Sam Dennigan & Co. fresh approach to produce see them become a leading supplier for Dunnes Stores.

  • 2012

    The pioneering spirit lives on! Sam’s Potatoes burst onto the market and bring new life to the shelves of Irish shops.

  • 2013

    Potato mania has swept the country since the launch of the best spuds in the land – Sam’s Spuddies, Sweet Spuds, Ready Made Roosters and Bakers.
